Bajrang Punia adds a sixth medal to India’s Tally at Tokyo

Bajrang Punia adds his name to the long list of Indian Wrestlers who have won a medal at the Games. By beating Kazakhstan's Daulet Niyazbekov by 8-0 in men's 65kg freestyle bronze bout Punia becomes the sixth Indian to win the medal at Tokyo and also won the country's 7th medal overall in the sport.

The Indian wrestlers had a chance to win the gold but lost the fight to Haji Aliyevof Azerbaijan in the semi-finals. Later he made a comeback by dominating his Kazakh opponent to take the Bronze. Interestingly the bronze medal match was a rematch of the 2019 World Championship semi-finals and Bajrang had lost to the Kazakh wrestler then but improved on that at Tokyo. India has reached its record haul of medals at the Olympics, matching the London Games tally of six.
